Mir liegt nur ein Premaster Demo des neuen Albums vor, das am 30. August erscheinen wird. Eins vorneweg: For The Day sind wieder HC/Punkrock lastiger geworden, wie bereits der melodiöse, kraftvolle erste Song "Pay Cheque (Heritage II)" beweist. Und auch sie stellen fest "I'm not the youngest anymore" - vielleicht klingen sie deswegen ein wenig so, als würden sie sich auf alte Helden und Wegbegleiter verlassen - und doch haben sie ihren eigenen Charakter bewahrt, das Album klingt einmal mehr wie aus einem Guss und Mark's rauhe Stimme passt bestens zu den meist leicht melancholischen HC Riffs, von denen man auch das eine oder andere Mal Social Distortion Einflüsse heraushören kann, was ja kein Fehler ist. Geschlossener und noch mehr Song orientierter als der Vorgänger, checkt mal den Opener und "Patrick The Mole". - Papst Pest (Bierfront, 08/2003)

die neue leatherface platte läuft bei mir, es steht nur FOR THE DAY auf dem cover. es ist nach "love isn´t brains, children..." der zweite longplayer des ablegers von sheridan und cleansweep. die band aus aachen macht ihre sache gewiß gut, doch ist es nicht wirklich mein fall, bei mir reicht es nur für against me, alte leatherface und hwm und einleben und dann ist mein bedürfnis nach punkrock gestillt. aber die band steht den großen bands des genre bestimmt in nichts nach, so daß es mir schon fast leid tut, daß ich nicht so viel damit anfangen kann. wer jawbreaker, hüsker dü, aber auch neuere bands der no idea-schule mag, kann sich getrost dieses album kaufen. es ist nicht meins, aber deswegen kann und soll es deins sein. I have missed For The Day´s debut album "Love isn´t brains, children...", and now I´m lamost regretting it. Luckily this time I don´t miss their album and it´s a pleasure to review it. I have heard it from start to end a several time snow and I´m still not getting tired of it. Melodic and catchy stuff, that reminds me a lot of like Jawbreaker. As I love Jawbreaker, these guys from Aachen really don´t have a hard time convincing me. Great stuff, so I´m already ending this review so I can listen to this CD undisturbed again. Eineinhalb Jahre nach dem Debüt endlich das zweite Album der Aachener, wieder zusammen mit Menno Bakker enstanden (NRA, Manliftingbanner, Seein Red). Immer noch mit einem Fuß im Mitt-90er-Emocore-Genre (Jawbreaker, Leatherface, HWM, Samiam), aber auch moderne Referenzen wie Alkaline Trio, wird hier auch die Punkrock-Seite der Band wieder betont, die Zeiten der ewigen Hot Water-Vergleiche sollten hiermit vorbei sein, zumal der Gesang auch deutlich eigenständiger geworden ist. 11 Songs (37min); dickes bildreiches Booklet, Vinyl auf 1000 limitiert und im Klappcover (Flight 13 mailorder list, 09/2003)

Ganz stark und selbstbewusst melden sich FOR THE DAY mit "Sofa So Good" nach einer kreativen und arbeitsintensiven Phase wieder zurück. Was mir als erstes auffällt ist, dass die fünf Musiker wirklich ein schönes gemütlich aussehendes Sofa besitzen. Doch ich gebe es ehrlich zu: hinter das Wortspiel bin ich erst relativ spät gestiegen. Na ja, so weit so gut, sag ich mal...
Zweite wichtige Auffälligkeit und Erkenntnis kommt erst nach Einlegen der CD in den Player: Sänger Marc hat stimmlich einen großen Sprung nach vorne gemacht etwa was seinen Charme und seine Überzeugungskraft betrifft. Schon jetzt eine ernsthafte Konkurrenz für Mr. Frankie "Leatherface" Stubbs. Aber was ich noch positiver finde, ist, dass er auch unglaublich harmonisch mit Lisse von "Nothing in Common" agieren kann, der in zwei Songs den eher softeren Part übernimmt.
FOR THE DAY sind 2003 zu einer Band gereift, die es verstanden hat ihre überragenden Live-Qualitäten, ihr ganzes Herzblut zu opfern und so jeden Hörer zu einem Freund der Band zu machen. SOFA SO GOOD hat einfach alles um nie wieder ungücklich zu sein!
Sympathisch und für Fans von "Samiam" und "Jawbreaker" unumgänglich. Alte Emocore-Schule ist doch immer noch das einzig wahre unter all dem frischen Gemüse, das sich Emo nennt! Ok, wir wollen ja nicht streiten, deswegen holt euch SOFA SO GOOD. Jetzt! (5/5) - taymas (FoMP.de, 10/2003)

Knapp eineinhalb Jahre nach ihrem Debüt melden sich die sympatischen Aachener von For The Day zurück und präsentieren sich musikalisch gereift und voller Ambitionen. FTD tischen ein ordentliches Punkrock-Brett auf, das mit einem Bein im Emocore und mit dem anderen im fest Rock verwurzelt ist. Bands wie Jawbreaker, Leatherface, Samiam, All, Dag Nasty, Alklaine Trio oder Hüsker Dü standen sicherlich Pate und der raue Gesang von Sänger Marc lässt natürlich das ein oder andere mal positiv an Hot Water Music denken. Gast-Vocals diesmal vom Sänger von den befreundeten Nothing In Common. Defintiv eine der besseren deutschen Bands. Unbedingt antesten! (Green Hell mailorder list, 09/2003)

The name of this band sounded very well known to me, but there is nothing in my collection from these guys from Aachen, Germany, so maybe I have seen them playin’ live somewhere but the impression I have got from this album will never let me forget this band again. And O.K. I am not an emo type of guy but the emotions this great lead singer spread are great to listen to. With their punk rock in the vein of Samian, Dag Nasty and the Alkaline Trio, this second full length will be defiantly a breakthrough in Europe. EMO ?? Nicht ganz, leichten New Wave Powerpop Einschlag aus Rock City Aachen, ja!!! Was soll man dazu schreiben? Da gibt's jemand, der sich das Teil schon längst gekrallt hat. 11 Songs sind auf diesen Longplayer, die haben sich gewaschen. Ziemlich verspielte Musik, ziemlich emotional geht man ans Werk, lässt nicht dabei außer acht, dass es noch andere Musikstiele gibt. Manche Gitarrenlicks erinnern mich an THE SMITH oder wie die hießen. Schöne beruhigende Mucke, 11 Songs ind ein Klappcover auf einen tollen Plattenlabel.
Außerdem sind FOR THE DAY eine super Liveband, die man hoffentlich bald mal wider sieht. ist jetzt nicht 100% Punkrock, doch man kann sich durchaus mal in andere Ufer begeben und mit FOR THE DAY mal eine gelungene Abwechslung besorgen. Saucool!!!- Mike Moronic (Little Gigantor, 06/2004)

For those who loved Jawbreaker's "Unfun" album will wanna get there hands on this. Melodic punk rock that touches the emo border but doesn't go all whiney and pathetic like most does. Not a bad release here and it will definitely appeal to the Jawbreaker fans. Voice is a bit more rawer but still very early Blake-ish. For the Day kommen aus Aachen und haben ihr zweites Album schon vor ein paar Tagen auf den Markt gebracht, wieder über Rockstar Records. 11 Songs sind auf „Sofa so good“ enthalten, die allesamt gut ins Ohr gehen. Kurz: For The Day können auf „Sofa so good“ überzeugen.
Musikalisch reihen sich For The Day in den Kreis so namenhafter Bands wie Hot Water Music, Leatherface oder Lonely Kings ein. Denn ihre Musik aus emotionalem Punk, Emo und rauem Gesang erinnert schon stark an die genannten Bands. Dabei setzen For The Day besonders auf den erwähnten Gesang und die Trumpfkarte Melodie und machen daher ihre Sache außerordentlich gut. Denn die Trumpfkarte sticht und „Sofa so good“ ist ein gutes Album geworden, dass zwar die Musik nicht neu erfindet aber durchaus mit genannten Bands mithalten kann. Baby, da rockt die Emotion! Einerseits gibt es Reibeisenstimme satt im Stile von Punk goes Emo like Leatherface oder Hot Water Music. Andererseits den Emopunk früher Fugazi, Dag Nasty oder aufgerauhter Weakerthans. For The Day, die Fakten sind klar, haben sich mit dem Nachfolger ihres Debüts "Love Isn't Brains, Children..." zum rührend-rockenden Aachener Exportschlager gemausert. Sozusagen ging es aus der Schülermannschaft (Gründung als Projekt von Musikern der Bands Sheridan, Cleansweep, Anthrophobie und Engrave, 1999) in die Kreisliga (Demo 2000) weiter in die zweite Liga (Debüt-Album, 2001) und nun ab in die Bundesliga. Wenn das Quintett so weitermacht, kommt es noch in die Auswahl der Europameisterschaften 2006. Denn was For The Day (meist) machen ist einfach gute Musik, die trotz der markanten Reibeisenstimme wegen der melodiösen Gitarrenriffs auch ein bisschen poppunkig klingt. Man hört der Band eben einfach die gute Kinderstube an - eben Leatherface, Hot Water Music, Dag Nasty - und nur selten scheint eine lieblos heruntergeleierte Melodie durch - die auch die durch den Emo-Trend aus dem Boden geschossenen Indieclons verbechen. Und sonst? Die CD enthält im 12-Seiten-Booklet fast zweihundert Fotos, allerdings keine Lupe, was Standardgimmick hätte sein müssen. Und da For The Day nicht nur kleckern, sondern auch protzen, erschien die Vinyl-Version mit noch mehr Fotos, im Klappcover und ist auf 1.000 Stück limitiert. - mk (Movie, 09/2003)

I tedeschi For The Day nascono nel 1999 come side-project di alcune piccole realtà hardcore locali come Sheridan e Cleansweep e con "Sofa So Good" - edito da Rockstar Records solo qualche giorno fa, il 30 agosto per la precisione - tagliano il traguardo del secondo album. Anche il primo elleppì "Love Isn't Brains, Children…", uscito a gennaio dello scorso anno, era stato pubblicato dall'emergente etichetta connazionale, la quale accoglie nel proprio recinto tra gli altri anche i neozelandesi Sommerset, uno dei possibili nomi nuovi della più recente scena emo-punk-pop mondiale.
Ma ora parliamo dei For The Day, perché il discorso è particolarmente interessante. Nonostante non mi sia mai capitato d'imbattermi prima d'ora neppure nel loro monicker, il quintetto della Repubblica Federale di Germania si dimostra fin dalle prime note del disco una band di livello superiore alla media, e questo full lenght è per certi versi prodigioso. Riesumando alla grande lo spirito e le sonorità care a certi Dag Nasty, agli Hüsker Du, ai Samiam e ai Jawbreaker, indi sistemandosi sulla scia di Hot Water Music, Leatherface e Avail, i ragazzi di Aquisgrana mettono insieme undici episodi uno più eccitante dell'altro.
Il loro è un punk sostanzioso, abrasivo, cantato con un'inconsueta voce grattata (alle prime forse neanche delle più convincenti, ma poi in grado di stabilizzarsi e di fondersi perfettamente con la musica), tanto melodico quanto viscerale, capace di dar vita ad eccellenti brani pregni di emozioni genuine ma rese attraverso un'attitudine che non sfiora mai l'autoindulgenza. Emo-core della vecchia scuola meets punk rock: tutto qui, e vi assicuro che non è per niente poco.
Consigliamo calorosamente "Sofa So Good" (molto belli pure il booklet - con un miliardo di mini-foto sparse dappertutto! - e la inlay card, entrambi in cartoncino ruvido) a tutti gli estimatori di una, di parte o di tutte le formazioni sopra (e sotto) menzionate: i For The Day sono semplicemente uno dei migliori gruppi punk rock europei ascoltati da queste parti negli ultimi tempi. Hui, da tut sich was auf! Mit Melodycore-Bands kann man sich seit Jahren totwerfen, aber richtig gute Bands zu finden, das ist schwieriger, als Wackelpudding mit Stäbchen essen zu wollen. Allerdings wäre es nicht korrekt, For the Day als reine Melodycore-Band abzukanzeln, denn hier steckt Emo drin, das richtige Punkfeeling, knallige Riffs und ein Gesang, der die Schnittmenge aus Leatherface, Crimpshrine und Hot Water Music darstellt, sehr rau und sehr markant.
Musikalisch sind die Jungs aus Aachen topfit, haben ein mächtiges Gespür für echte Hits und langweilen zu keiner Minute, denn die Songs sind abwechslungsreich und nicht nach Schema F durchgehend aufgekocht.
Selbst für Bands wie All, Samiam, oder Dag Nasty wäre es heute sicher schwierig, sich in diesem gesamten Sumpf aus den zahllosen Bands abzuheben, die eigentlich keine Sau braucht. Von daher ist es nicht leicht, die wirklich guten Bands angemessen zu empfehlen, weil die Superlative bereits alle bis zum Erbrechen abgelutscht wurden.
Darum mit ernster Stimmlage: "Das hier ist gut, verdammt gut, kauf es oder geh spülen!!!" Eine weitere Band, von der ich nur zu gerne ein Konzert besuchen würde! Kalle Stille (Ox Fanzine, 03/2004)

".so what!?" Hehe, der mit Abstand beste Albumtitel dieses Jahr. FOR THE DAY aus Aachen, die "SHEER TERROR des Emo", sind mit neuer Scheibe zurück und besser als je zuvor, was vor allem am entspannteren Gesang liegt, der überhaupt nicht mehr bemüht gepresst rüberkommt, wie es auf dem Debüt noch streckenweise der Fall war. Super! Auch die Songs klingen ausgereifter und ein Ausfall ist weit und breit nicht zu entdecken. Bester Song ist "Patrick the Mole", der einen wirklich schönen Refrain hat. Auch die Produktion hat es in sich und klingt extrem gut und fett. Wollen wir also mal ein wenig provokant sein und behaupten, dass dies die Platte ist, die HOT WATER MUSIC immer aufnehmen wollten, es aber nie geschafft haben? Schon die 'Love isn't brains'-CD war der Überhammer. Und die Aachener Jungs übertreffen mit diesem Album noch mal meine Erwartungen an eine Band, die nach LEATHERFACE, JAWBREAKER und SAMIAM klingt. Ist nähmlich kein Abklatsch, sondern FOR THE DAY spielen in der Liga gleichberechtigt mit. Klasse Melodien und ein Sänger, der wahrscheinlich kiloweise Kreide fressen könnte und doch noch ein schönes Reibeisen hat. Sinceramene non mi hanno mai esaltato questi For The Day nonostante li conosca già da un bel po' di tempo, infatti ho precedentemente recensito sia il loro demo di esordio omonimo che il loro penultimo disco precedente a questo "sofa so good" e devo dire che come li ho lasciati qualche anno fa li ritrovo esattamente ora.La band tedesca ci propone un emo-punk in pieno stile Hot Water Music e compagni per intenderci, ben suonto anche se forse troppo lineare e impostato su certe righe dalle quali non si discostano molto durante tutto il loro percorso artistico, e questo può essere un bene per quanto riguarda la coerenza della band nello scegliere una linea precisa nel modo di suonare ma d'altro canto questa scelta è un po' riduttiva soprattutto nella scena odierna dove bisogna sempre dimostrare una maturazione artistica lavoro dopo lavoro.Batteria molto lineare, chitarre molto sottili in pieno stile punk-rock e una voce molto "rauca" sono le caratteristiche principali di questi for The Day che nonostante il mio parere sono uno dei gruppi tedeschi più conosciuti sia nel loro paese che in Europa; questo è dovuto anche al loro rapporto che ormai dura già da diversi anni con la validissima Rockstar Records la quale ha nel suo roster gruppi validissimi come gli Outbreak ed i Sommerset.11 brani molto intensi e compatti accompagnati da un booklet molto curato e carino fanno di questo disco sicuramente un lavoro molto apprezzabile da una vasta fetta di pubblico, ma sinceramente non rimarrà nella mente di molti ascoltatori, rimarrà semplicemente nella loro collezione.Tra i brani più illuminanti "in your dreams", "insurance", "28th", "heartbreak champ", e "bonuss". - Giacomo (Raise Your Fist Magazine, 04/2004)

Born like side-project of members of Sheridan, Engrave and Cleansweep, the For the Day project has soon become something more important than an extemporary digression, even reaching the debut-album “Love Isn’t Brains, Children...”. This second “Sofa So Good” is a strange album, an album that often would like to take the flight, but then changes idea continuously, it gets lost through too many reflections, it forgets the fuel in who knows what closet. They don’t miss some good intuitions (half way between emo-core àla Benton Falls and the Alkaline Trio model pop-punk, without ever risking any kind of experiment), but a worthy melodic continuity is missing. They lack the songs, so much that, even if at the first listening the german five piece seems creative and energetic, in long terms reveals its limits. There’s a big difference between telling a daily story collecting the most diverse cues (as half catalogue of Deep Elm and Vagrant do, for example) and putting together a bunch of glued ideas by a handful of strengthened, accelerated and (sometimes) saddened popular songs. Painful (at least in the vocal lines between screaming and clean) and light, emo-punk (their biographical definition) of For the Day finds a reknown way to mirror into reality, a sound that someway is trendy, without succeeding to recover the man-tall confront with daily routine. Unfortunately the happy sound combination (remarkable passages in “In Your Dreams”, in “Heartbreak Champ” or in “Town With No River”) are not matched by an always honest attitude and always up to the task intentions. So we must get satisfied with a decent work, the lovers of the style will appreciate, but they leave some bitter in mouth for the unexpressed potentialities of a promising band. - Flavio Ignelzi (Silent Scream, 02/2004)

I think I have the demo of For The Day in my collection, but I don't know for sure. As I don't remember the sound they played back then and as I don't have their first album "Love isn't brains, children..." I was curious if they'd sound as much as Hot Water Music as people said in the past. I don't know if they ever sounded like the Gainesville four piece in the past, but please remember that not every band with rough vocals sounds like Hot Water Music. In fact I heard out some Jawbreaker influences on the opening track on "Sofa so good" (great title by the way!) while the second song is really a bit in the vein of Hot Water Music. But hey, being influenced by another band doesn't mean you're not good or have no own ideas, right? For The Day from Rockcity Aachen made a cool record that contains 11 rocking songs with some more quiet moments and a great layout with tons of pictures and the lyrics written on all kinds of papers (the vinyl comes in a limited version of 1.000 copies, so you better be quick). Fans of (early) Jawbreaker, Hot Water Music or Hüsker Dü should check out this band, they rock! (Voice Of Reason, 09/2003)

For The Day was born as a sideproject by members of hardcore bands like Cleansweep and Sheridan. For The Day however focuses more on the punkrock / collegerock side of things. Judging from their sound I guess they are influenced by bands like Dag Nasty, Alkaline Trio, Garrison and Husker Du. They recorded these eleven excellent songs in the Bunt studios in Utrecht, Holland. So production wise this is again top notch, but maybe a bit too polished. The sound should've been a bit more rawer if you ask me. Now the sound lacks the fire that make punkbands so interesting. However I definitely enjoy listening to this record. It contains some solid punkrock songs. Decent output, nothing more, nothing less. (IZ) (WMTD, 10/2003)

If Leatherface, Jawbreaker, and ALL went to Germany and had a love child...you'd get For The Day! I don't want to call them "emo" though. With mediocre yet huge bands like Thursday using that term nowadays it just cheapens how great of a band this is. The first song I heard by FTD was the Heartbreak Champ mp3...I left it on repeat for about half an hour! I grabbed every other song on the site and even put their link up on mine. Not long after their drummer Karsten emailed and hooked me up with both of their albums. Their latest Sofa So Good starts off full throttle with Pay Cheque. Then they kick it up ANOTHER notch with In Your Dreams. The first line by itself is a fucking classic! "She's not the one I'm dreaming of... She used to be but I'm not having any nightmares anymore!" Then we slow down a little bit with Insurance to get you ready for the Patrick The Mole/ 28th/ Fairly Tale combo that will have you cranking up the volume in the middle of each new song (my speakers are about to pop already). Following is the lighter Coming Down and that instant classic Heartbreak Champ. And the ride comes to an end with No Home, Town With No River and an instrumental. After all these months this album hasn't dulled a single bit...it's getting better even! So I have to award it with the rare and coveted one of The Best Albums Of All Time ratings!!
